Yesterday as I was writing about not having any news to share I kind of forgot the only important thing, which has happent during the past months. And that is some new HCM-results!

So we are happy to be able to write here that our Lempi (Red River vom Mäuseturm) is in the age of 3 years a perfect "sweet-heart" with excellent heart functions ;)

Concerning our Sulo we were expecting some worse news, cause we already knew he has some missfunction in his heart. Though, he still (in the age of 5 years) do not have traditional HCM-symptoms and the symptoms he is showing are still very mild and doesn't harm his life in any way!

We have made new plans for both of our girls. Tyynes mate will be the same as last year (scroll a few posts down) and Tyyne will meet him next time she is on heat. Lempis plans are laid on ice until we know if Tyyne is really getting some kitten. So more about it follows in future ...

Long time no see... I haven't been writing for almost a year now, since there hasn't been so much to tell ;) We have been having a creative break and now we are slowly trying to get "back to the game" which is , of course kind of challenging with our two neuters, one almost hairless breeding female "showcat" and another breeding female who is not getting pregnant inspite of all possible tricks! But are we giving up? NO.

Well we have some "indirect" good news now: Lempi's daughter Lumileon Saima Harmaja has achieved a champion-title in Finland! Congrats to cattery FIN*Nordic Tigers! Sulos daughter Orange Blossom vom Mäuseturm has achieved a title as a Grand International Champion! Congrats to Cattery vom Tannenhof!

Third time is a charm...?

Finally something is happening in our little breed! After the relaxed summer holidays our Tyyne (CH Scarlett-Sandra's Hermione) is paying a visit to a beutiful male ""Finnsdalens Ignatz" in Finnsdalens cattery here in Berlin. There are really no quarantee for the results, after all, it is already Tyynes third partner (without kitten this far) and she is soon three years old. We have tested her because of the breeding problems, but any fysical problems has been found - so we'll try once more and again! Ignatz already has brought a bunch of pretty kittens in the world, so we are hopeful!

Yes, I know, I have "a thing" with red cats, but ther are also other bunch of other nice qualities in this young gentleman. I met Ignatz 's mama Makeida, as she was few years ago at my place to meet Sulo. The visit didn't pay any results, but I admired the nice bone structure of her found her backround interesting. The combintion of Tyyne and Ignatz would be delightful also because they both still have novice cats on their backround.

The meeting is going well this far. My fingers are crossed ;)

Now that we are back in Berlin its nice to remind back to the warm summer days... ;) Actually I was pendeling the whole summer between Finland, Berlin and Wolfsburg. The cats were spending their summer by my mother-in-law. They got to go out every day and enjoy the wonders of mother nature.

Ihana, ihana, ihana! Kertoisivat meidän mirrit heinäkuustaan, jos puhua osaisivat! Muutimme heinä-elokuun vaihteessa ja kaupunkilaiskisut pääsivät evakkoon anoppilaan viettämään kunnon maalaiskesää. Kissat nauttivat täysin siemauksin maalaiselämästä - kaikki paitsi Lempi, jonka mielestä ulkoilu on koirien hommaa.

Anoppi on itse aikanaan pitänyt kanoja ja nyt vanha kanatarha malattiin ja kunnostettiin kissoille sopivaksi; kaikki reiät tilkittiin ja terävät kulmat poistettiin kanaverkosta.
--
Sulo otti heti paraatipaikakseen kanatalon suuaukon, josta päivysti puutarhan tapahtumia. Toinen suosikkipaikka oli kanalan "orsi". Siellä kolli möllötti kuin olisi hautonut isompaakin munasta... yhtään munaa ei kyllä pyöräyttänyt.

Tyyne on kasvattajansa luona tottunut ulkotarhoihin ja innostui nytkin kovasti ulkoilusta jopa niin, että odotti aina aamuisin kantokassissaan, että "Jokos mentäis?". Sulo vanhana konkarina sai jopa juosta välillä itse pihan poikki tarhalle ja myös Elmo nautti pihan touhujen seurailusta.

Annoin kastraattipoikien juosta välillä myös "vapaana" kana-aitauksessa. Tyyne ja Lempi joutuivat tyytymään seurailemaan tilnnetta kanahäkin sisäpuolelta - sen verran kaihoisina kuuluivat läheisten maalaistalojen kollien huudot, että ajattelin olla riskeeraamatta... molemmat neidit pamahtivatkin melkein heti kiimaan, jotentyttöjen tuomisten ja viemisten kanssa sai olla varovainen. Kanatarha sijaitsi nimittäin puutrhan perällä.

Lempi parka ei oikeen sopeutunut ulkoiluun vaan jäi lopulta mielummin sisälle kun lähti tarhalle. Jätimme city-neidin siis sisäkissailemaan ja ulkoilut jatkuvat taas normaliin tapaan uuden asuntomme verkotetulla parvekkeella.

Tyyne 2,5 Years!

Last saturday we went to Erkner cat show with our hairless ladies. Erkner was a very positive suprise for me, a lot of pretty norwegians from Germany, Denmark and Poland were there.

Tyyne got her CACIB and Lempi was EX3 of 5. It sure isn't easy in the group VI! So she still lacks the last cert of champion. Tyyne on the other hand would need one from abrod, so maybe we'll head to Poland in the future with our girls.

There are also some "pre-pre" plans made for Tyyne and a very beautiful young male with an interestig backround, but... we'll have to see how things develop. We are very busy with our baby daughter and the search for a new apartment - The "breeding hobby" nowadays often comes on the second place.

Here are some more snapshots from Lumileon Uuno Kailas, who is already a big boy of 4,5 kg - even though he looks so skinny in the photos. Uno was in his first cat show in vantaa on 25th of april. He is a bit out of coat and was acting somewhat shy, but got a nice judgement and his EX1.

The brothers Rocky Balboa and Eino Leino have both been neutered! Rocky started to find his fellow cat too interesting... too bad we have no new fotos of them. But they are both doing very well and keeping their personal busy and happy ;)

Our "junior" Lempi turned two years on 21. of April. Here are few photos of our miss pretty.

Gongratulations also to her siblings Kimba (Cattery Bestwins), Rosi and Ori (Cattery vom Tannenhof)!

Lempi is having a "hair-growing-break" after her first kitten in last september. We will show her a few times and try to get her a champion title before her second babies. Lempi can be seen in Erkner cat show in 23. & 24. of may.

"Where did the football go?"

Sulos grandchildren and Lempi's nephews have been borned in cattery Bestwins. Seven big, beautiful and healthy kittens saw the daylight at 16. of March. Congratulations!!!!!! Nice bunch of blue - and black tabbies, silver and torties - the mother Eevee decided to show that she sure is carrying dillution!

Yesterday we drove to Weinböhla cat show (near Dresden). Both our chicks got their certificates, Lempi (Red River vom Mäuseturm) her second CAC and Tyyne (Scarlett-Sandra's Hermione) her first CACIB. In BIV lost Lempi against a beutiful tortie-girl of class 7, who also ended up being the best of best. Lempi still looks somewht "childish" even though she'll soon turn 2 years. Well, we have time, we have patience... ;)

Last weekend we were in a cat show in Turku and followed there the first presentation of Lempis son Rocky (Lumileon Rocky Balboa). He managed his "Entree" great, being EX1 on saturday and EX1 & NOM on sunday. His behaviour was excellent: He is just like our Sulo, though his looks are from papa Odysseus.

Little show cat

Lumileon Saima Harmaja, Tupsu, succeeded today in a cat show in Laihia, Finland. She was EX1(2), BIV-tot and NOM for BIS. In the "best in show" she collected one judge vote. We are super happy and super proud, congratulations!

Tupsu is our "first born" and we used to call her "Beule" (bruise/bump, kuhmu) because she fell down on the floor from the height of about one meter when she was borned. She had a big forehead and my husband is sure, this was due to the aborning damages! But now we have every reason to be proud of Beule and her big head!

Who would have thought that Rocky - who used to look more like my little pony as a cat - would develop to be such a handsome young male! I think he looks a lot like his papa Odysseus in these fotos. He weights 3,5 kilos at the moment.

We got some nice news from Finland today! Lumileon Saima Harmaja was EX1 in her first cat show in seinäjoki. Congratulations to the fine young lady!

Sulo is waiting for his third set of grandchildren to be born. This time the proud papa is Sulo's only son, Kimba (Golden Nugget vom Mäuseturm) and the mother to be Eevee (Evdal's Eevee), who both reside in cattery Bestwins. We are very excited about the kittens and hope everything will go well!

Tupsu's ancestors were squirrels?

Few days after Lumileon Saima Harmaja "Tupsu" arrived to her new home, her owner asked me if I had used some squirrels in breeding. Saima does not only look like a squirrel, she also behaves like one! She likes to sit on shoulder and fly throug livingroom from the cat tree to the sofa. Well, all the breeders have their secrets... and some german breeders have used weirder things in breeding ;)

Tupsu (auf Deutsch "Pinsel") lives in Finland, in Seinäjoki, and she has two new friends, Nanna and Tikru, in her family. She might also been seen in cat shows in future.

Eino - the poet of Wedding

Lumileon Eino Leino is the only kitten who stayed in Berlin! Eino reminds me of his grandpa Sulo, he is easy-going and loves people over all!

Eino has a few weeks youngr companion Mumpi, who really has "fire under his tail". Compared to this little black and white cat Eino seems a little bit slow... but the young cats make a nice couple and seem to keep their "mama" busy ;)

Uno = number one?

Also Lumileon Uuno Kailas, "Uno" landed in Finland in the beginning of this year. His new home town is Vantaa and he also has a "big brother" in his famil. The young cats have soon become good friends and Uuno seems to have found his place in is new home, as well as in the heart of his new "mama".

Life after kittens

Is there a life after kittens?

After having the three last babies our fabulous five "delivered" over winter holidays, I took a little break of updating my HP and this blog and everything! The last four kittens borned on 15. September spent over 16 weeks with us and combined this with a new born baby this was a quite an intensive period in my live. But nowall the kittens are happily living in their new homes, two in Germany and three in Finland. And after all, I still have a baby at home - my daughter Matilda, today 3 months old! But now we are "back in business" also with our cats!

Our girls Tyyne and Lempi are both not in a show condition, Lempi still recovering from the kittens and Tyyne, just being herself, dropped her beutiful winter coat after christmas and started dieting. And this is happening now, when I would have time to go to some shows with our girls. Well, at least we do Erkner show in may, even if the girls wouldn't have hair at all.

Heavy weight kitten

Kitten turn tomorrow 11 weeks and they are starting to be sowhat big... Poor Lempi still offers them their daily portion of motherly love - and milk ;)

Hera are some fotos of the weighting-action. Since we use a box to weight the kitten, they just love it! It is always a little battle, who is allowed to sit in the box. On the photo I'm holding Eino, Saima is in the box on a scale. Uuno is waiting fhis turn and Rocky is layig on my leg.

Oona is the only kitten who is still actively searching for home. Here is her daily weigt: Somewath over 1300 gramm.

Our heavyweigt-cat of the day was suprisingly Eino with almost 1800 grams. Uunos weight is over 1600 grams (even though he looks bigger than Eino...), Rockys over 1500 grams and the girls are between 1300 and 1400 grams. Quite a nice bunch of "little" cats.

This week the kitten turned 9 weeks! They develop fast and are all playful and pretty. Though their characters also start to differ from each other, for example Rocky being super active and Uuno rather calm. Saima is very playful and Oona loves toclimb. Eino lover people and follows one all over - even to toilet...

Our vets visited us this weeks and gave the kitten their first vaccinations. The vet also checked the kitten and everyone is healthy and in a good shape for their age. I was very proud of the good behaviour of the kitten.

Kittens kidnapped by Tyyne

Until the day before yesterday Tyyne was only interested in kitten when I fed them. She was pretty anxious to teach them who eats first in this family. Something must have happen with her hormons on monday, as the kitten turned 6 weeks.

Lempi is on heat again and she was outside crying after a new lover. Tyyne noticed that her time to be a mum was there! She kidnapped all the kitten and went with them to the closet. Only a loud purring revealed her hiding place. Since then she really thinks the kitten are hers. Lempi only feeds them but Tyyne spends all the time with kitten playing, eating and sleeping with them. And the kitten love their black auntie-Tyyne!

Yesterday I gave birth to five beautiful babies.

Don't you see, they even have the ear line from me?

The six-week-old kitten are great! Their weights vary from 710 to 865 gramms, Rocky not being the smallest on one anymore! But he sure is the nastiest one... he has bitten my toes red and my legs are full of long scratches. He is a charming little cat ;)

Babies turned 5 weeks today! They really are loaded with positive energy. Their own baby area is starting to be a bit small for them and I let them run free in the bed room a few times a day. It is interesting to see how their characters are developing. Uuno and Oona are rather cosy and fat, they even seem to sleep more than the other kiddies. Saima and Eino are always up to a little adventure and they love the company of people. Rocky thinks he is a Forest Cat with a big F! He is always chasing mouses or attacking his siblings - who still are bigger than him.

Kitten are 4 weeks old and there is starting to be some action around the kitten box! All the kiddies are learning to run and climb on their little tree. Today Rocky and Uuno ate some "Hackfleisch" for the first time - and Uuno even found the toilet himself!

White ears = silver?

Today the babies are almost three weeks old and I've been wondering their colours - once more and again! It seems to me that Saima, Rocky and Oona are all with silver. (If somebody wants to check... http://lumileon.1g.fi/kuvat/Silberkatzen/).

All of them are growing rapidly and they weight around 400 gram. Lempi is starting to be on heat, but she is still the greatest mother! I'm so happy milk seems to be enough for all the kiddies and everybody is learning new things daily.

Our other cats do not show a lot of interest in the small ones, only Sulo sometimes sits me beside the kitten box - but his interest is mostly my company, not his grandchildren. Also Elmo and Tyyne often pay a visit to "the baby area", but only to eat Lempis food.

Eino Leino is the biggest one of the kittens and he is already starting to run! Pretty boy looks quite a lot of lie his grandpa Sulo! (above & below)

Oona (below) is my little favourite girl... she is almost happy and ready to play. Her body is throughhout round... ever her tail is round ;) She is also very fotogene and loves to pose.

Rocky is soon in the same weight-series with his sisters. He is the noisiest one in the crew and screams after his mother always when somebody is touching him. He also can move very fast and loves to play with people.

Our little red group is already 11 days old and growing fast! All of them have opened treir eyes and are starting to move more around the kitten box. The weights at the moment are around 270-280 grams, except Rocky who is still some 50 grams behind the others.

Our kitten turned one week yesterday and all of them are opening their eyes.
Today I finally give the kitten names: Eino, Uuno, Oona, Saima and Rocky. We wanted to give them traditional finnish names, like my other cats have, but Rocky already has his nickname so I did not want to change it. Tomorrow I'm going to make the first offical fotos of the small ones. But here are short descriptions about evrybody:

SAIMA is also called "Beule" because she dropped on her head when she was borned. Stefan was sure she hurt herself, especially because she has an extremely big head, but she seems to be in the best shape ;) She is the firstborn and the biggest one of the kitten. Saima is creme classic tabby with white and she might have also silver tone. Saima weights 226 grams with one week.

EINO was borned second and I really don't know which colour he has! So I still have to decide between creme (smoke) and creme classic tabby (silver). And he might have some white under his chin... he MIGHT... ;) Eino already has the sweetest eyes and he is actively checking the surroundings. Eino weights 211 grams with one week of age.

OONA is a red classic tabby with white and I think also with siver, because she is a lot of "brighter" than his red brother Rocky. With one week Oona weights 216 grams.

UUNO looks like a fat little squirrel and weight 221 grams with one week. I'm almost certain he is a creme-smoke of his colour. He is a lot of darker tone than his creme siblings, though there also is a "shadow" of classic tabby muster in his coat.

ROCKY could not drink himself in the first place an is a lot smaller than his siblings. With one week he weights only 154 gram. But now Rocky is sucking like he could never get enough... and "boxing" himself the best place on mamas side (like Rocky Balboa fighting against four Ivan Dracos at the same time... ;) Rocky's colour is red tabby classic with white, like his mother.

I have been searching for a suitable kitten box since I knew Lempi is going to become kitten. Though I did not manage to find anything nice for an acceptable price. I had to put all my decorative talent togethet and to make a box out of paper. It is probably not very durable, but the cats seem to appreciate it - all except Lempi who refuses to step into it!

Today morning I put Lempi on a scale after a few days break and could not believe my eyes... she has gained more than 300 g in a few days and now weights 4,9 Kg. She weights now 1,2 Kilos more than in the beginning of the pregnancy.

Well, well, still one more week to go, we'll see when she reaches 5 Kg... ;)

My camera is finally working again and I managed to make some new fotos of the cats. They love to hang out outside now when its still warm, but the nights are dark.

Elmo felt like a movie star. His film would carry a name "The Big El' - Ragdoll from Hell"

Even Lempi started to show some interest to the night butterflies. Though she is not able to jump very high with her belly.

Only one and a half weeks to go! Lempi is round and weights at the moment 800 grams more than when returning home from her visit by Odysseus. On the photo above her belly don't look so huge as it is due to her long legs. If my other female Tyyne would have as big belly it wold already touch the ground ;) But as we know, Tyyne has decided to stay single.

Lempis days nowadays consist mostly of eating and sleeping. Yesterday we found her favorite mouse under the bed and she ran two or three steps after it.

The right side of Lempis belly is fatter than the left side... Maybe we get an uneven amount of kittens? 3... 5... ??? I'm very excited. I'm very relieaved after hearing that the 800 grams weight do not refer to a big amout of kittens... ;)

Only Tyyne is a bit confused why her best girlfriend is suddenly so passive.

It ha been 36 days of mating and Lempi is becoming rounder all the time. Actually I'm suprised how soon that happens... She already has a big belly and it looks funny when she runs. Though, she is not running so much anymore, but rather taking it easy under the bed. I have hoped only a few kittens, but you never know. She is already so round and there is still so many weeks to go.... or maybe it is just an impression because she has sommer fell and very high legs. She weights somewhat 4,3 Kilos at the moment. Too bad my camera is broken.

Today I started to feed her with kitten food as she refused to eat her normal breakfast. It seemed to be tasty. Normally only Elmo an Tyyne want to eat as a first thing in the morning, but now our pregnant lady has joined the crew.

I'm starting to be pretty sure that we are becoming kitten in the middle of September. After three years of norwegian forest cats, two years of planning of a breed and one year of "active trying" it is quite a nice feeling. Though, we don't want to start any mass production of cats anyway, but to concentrate on the lines we have and to make sure it is also in the best interests of our cats - and the whole norwegian breed, of course.

Lempi seems to be very satisfied with herself, she is sleeping in her private corner on the kitchen window with a self-sufficient "smile" on her face and snurring a lot. Other cats give her beauty-treatmens and extra attention, after all, she is still the baby of the house herself.

Lempi was visiting her mate 2 1/2 weeks ago and we are anxiously waiting the signs of her -supposed- pregnancy. It MIGHT BE, that her nipples were somewhat red today morning... and she HAS gained 200 grams weight! (Though she loosed the same amount in the first place, when visiting her mate... so she is back in the starting point with 3,9 Kg)

I love to plant some flowers on a balcony during the summertime. Cats -suprisingly- mostly leave them alone.. but I do think they enjoy the flowers as well ;)

At least they love the birds which fly on the threes in front of the balcony.

And they enjoy the company of each other... Tyyne often tends to sleep ON Sulo.

HCM-Screenings

Its been over a month since I wrote last time. How the time flies when nothing happens! Meanwhile there has not been anything to write... Only worth-to-mention-case is the HCM-screening we made for Sulo (3rd testing) and Lempi (1st testing) in the end of june.

Sulo was diagnozed 6 months ago with "undefined cardiomyopathy", which actually means, his heart function is not normal, but the symptoms are still very mild and do not refer to any special form of cardiolomyopathy, at least not yet... We were of course very excited to hear how the medicine (Vasotop) is working and if the symptoms of Sulo have been developing in some direction. Our joy was great when the vet could confirm us, that the heart function is stabil and the medicin is working well! The systolic murmur, which was in the first place of 2-3 grade was diminshed to 1st grade murmur and the enlargement in LA was still mild (16,3 mm). Mitral valve, papillary muscels etc were still all in good shape. We are very hopeful, that our Silo will still have a long life in front of him.

Our Lempi was also screened and she is totally healthy with her 1,2 years. She will of curse be screened again when a few years older. We wanted to screen her "JUST-IN-CASE" before the first mating. We also took GSDIV- and Felv- & FIV-tests and they were fine as well. The most joyable thing was, that the cat was behaving extremely well through the whole procedure!

Boris Becker und Hexe erobern Thale

Yesterday we made a quick visit to a cat show in Thale with Tyyne and Lempi. 5 am at the morning we took a train and returned 23 pm. We spend over 8 hours in train - but it was worth it! Girl made new friends in train and got new nicknames "Boris Becker" and "Hexe" (Witch) from a co-traveller.

Thale is a nice little town and the local people are really friendly and talkative. I was quided to a show hall by a local lady and when waiting for he train home, many people wanted to discuss about cats. Nice experence ;)

The show day went well as well. There weren't many norwegian forest cats in the show, which was a small dissapointment for me. Though, we had a really nice "cage-neighbours" and the day went relative fast. Both of my girls behaved OK, Lempi did ot seem to be very comfortable in the cage and even show a little teeth to the jugde Sattler, but still she got a nice judgement and her first CAC! The day was even more positiv for our Tyyne, who already was able to relax a bit in her second cat show ever. The judge liked her looks and she got her third CAC and became CHAMPION.

Five weeks have gone since Tyynes mating and she shows no signs of pregnancy. Too bad, but it is not the first time. We were very hopeful this time, cause her new mate Odysseus is a young and very potent handsome male. But we don't want to give up yet... Tyyne is going to visit Odysseus later again. Before that we might want to ultra her utoris, just to check everything is OK. Once again we have received kind support from other breeders and we are very thankful for that! The beginning has sure not been easy for us ;)

Our home looks like a hairy ocean! All the Norwegian have decided to drop their hair on the same time and we are swimming in hair. My allergic colleques get symptoms when I go near of them in the office...

We have summer-decorated our balcony for the cats and they love to lie around and just enjoy the sun... whenever it shines... its still pretty cold here in Berlin.

Lempi is turning 1 year in a few days. Maybe I'll make an official birthdayphoto of her.

Tyyne is finally meeting her mate!

Tyyne finally ot her heat and I brought her to Hannover yesterday.

Berlin Hauptbahnhof is an exciting place for a cat. But Tyyne is already used to travelling, so the journey with her went good. She did not greet her mate very friendly, but we left the cats getting to know each other. Today I got a call from Hannover and the cats had already been sleeping nearby each other, and I kind of hope they'll get even more close during the next days.

Might be that Tyyne has to bring quite a long time in Hannover, because the trains in Germany are striking from tomorrow on. And at tuesday we are flying to holidays. (I don't know how should we get to the airport??) The cats ara going to spend 10 days in a cat-hotel keepen by our vet! They'll even have a room of their own. Still I'm afraid to leave my little darlings for such a long time.

Last but not least, here is the handsome mate of Tyyne, Odysseus vom Schiltwald. Odysseus lives in a cattery De-la-Platiada and we are more than happy that Tyyne got the possibility to visit this young male with great looks and kind character.

Winter is back

Today morning snow was covering Berlin! Quite suprising in March. The younger cats of mine haven't seen so much snow in their lives and they were excited, sitting at the balcony and trying to catch the falling snow flakes.

We are anxiously waiting for Tyyne's next heat. Of course she decided to have a longer break, as we found her a suitable partner! Normally she rolls around the house almost every two weeks. Well, with my luck she will get her heat when we start our holiday in one week....

Her chosen partner is a big creme-smoke male with impressing looks and a nice pedigree. Also, we are hoping to get tortie girls and black boys with or without smoke sometimes in future... Tyyne is probably not carrying dilution, so we don't count with blue kittens. But who knows... ;)

Kimba the Great!

We visited yesterday Sulo's son Kimba (Golden Nugget vom Mäuseturm) and his crew in a catshow of "Cat Club Berlin e.V" in Paaren/Glien nearby Berlin.

Kimba was a handsome young male, almost five kilos with ten months of age! He is a real Sulo-lookalike. Though, he has somewhat better fell quality (maybe due the possibility to go out daily) and bigger ears (from his mother). His behaviour alone gave a reason to be proud: He was taking it easy and presented himself very well.

No wonder he made BIS and the Best of Best Semi-long-hair!!! We are very proud of Sulo's son and want to congratulate his crew Monique and Marcel.

I went out yesterday and did not have much time to sleep in the night. On the morning hours I was hearing funny noises in my ears. I heard something like "Krrrhmiiiiiirrrrr-hrrrrrrr-krrrrm-mja-mja-kurrrrrrhmp" all the time. First I thought I was dreaming and that I might have taken one drink to much during the evening.

But no, in the morning I was fit, but my Lempi, who turned 10 months yesterday, is first time on heat.

Today we went to see our cardiologist once again. Sulo had his control to see if the medicin is working and I wanted to test Tyyne as well, for breeding, assuming we might happen to find her a nice mate during the spring.

Sulo's heart -and lungs- are doing better. His diagnose at the time is: systolic murmur if 3rd grade, no SAM-reaction, no LVOT-abstruction, normal papillary muscels, subjective left atrial size: mild dillation. We will see what the future will bring: Sulo will be tested every half a year for the rest of his life - which will hopefully be many many years! At the time we can call his heart problem with a name "undefinied cardiomyopathy".

Tyyne was also tested with ultra for HCM and other heart diseases and she is healthy! Of course we were very happy about the results. I was very proud because she was behaving very well! I even told the vet, that the cat might be kind of wild... but Tyyne lied down nicely and did not even say "miau". She will of course be tested again when she is a little older.

Heart-breaking news

We have once again a week full of action behind of us. It all started on a saturday evening one and a half weeks ago. We noticed that Sulo was "breeding with his stomac". He did not seem to have any pain, but we decided to take him to a vet anyway. In Berlin there are always 2 or 3 veterinaries doing the "emergency cases" and we visited one of them right away on a late saturday evening. The vet diagnozed that Sulo has liquid in his lungs, probably due to a some kind of infection he might had caught in a cat show one week ago. I asked her to hear Sulos heart as well and she said it is allright. We got some antibiotics and went home.

Sulo was tested one year ago for HCM and other heart diseasers with EKG and Ultra. The thought about heart problems did not leave me alone, so we drove on the next day -sunday- to see our "own vet". And the diagnoze was the opposite: no problems in lungs, but the heart seems not quite normal. The vet also took an x-ray of Sulo's heart and lungs: the heart looked abnormal - bigger and rounder as it should. Anyhow, our vet could not do more on sunday afternoon and we got an appointment to cardiology for thursday. Sulo was supposed to go to a cat show in Hannover on the next weekend and I cancelled his participation.

On thursday the cardiology (Dr. Kattinger) could confirm my worst fears only by listening Sulo's heart: there were problems not only in his lungs but also in his heart. She also did ultra, EKG and röntgen. The result: Sulo has no HCM but the function of his heart valves is not normal. This might be a hint of some kind of cardiopathy. The vet could not confirm is this kind of problem would run in a family or not.

First of all we are all very shocked from this diagnose. After all, Sulo was already tested by an experienged cardiology when he was two years old and he was supposed to be healthy. Now Sulo eats medicaments and he seems to be doing a lot better! We hope we'll still have many years together with this loveable cat!

I have been and will be contacting people about this problem, because it is important for me to know if this heart disease is something which runs in a family or not. This far all the people, breeders and owners of Sulo's relatives as well as other wegie-people whom I have told about this, have been very supporting. I want to thank everybody for the symphaty, understanding and information!

Show results from Hof

We are tired and happy after the show in Hof!

We left Berlin 5 am at the saturday morning and arrived to Hof in Northern Bayer already after 8 am. There were under 200 cats in the show, so the veterinary check went very fast. We did not have to stay in line at all! To bad the money I had paid for the show didn't have arrived in time, but I managed to negotiate us in.

Sulo in Best in show

Lempi was in class 11 and Sulo in class 10 - both of them had no other cats to compete with. They both had naturally EX1 in both days and Sulo was nominated on saturday. We were especially happy with the judgement of Lempi, which war troughout positive. On the second day Lempi stressed a little before the judgement, but behaved than quite nice after all.

Sulos daughter and Lempis sister Orange Blossom was also in Hof. I was happy to see she was developed to a beutiful young female and she had a great coat as well. She made EX 1 on both days and was even nominated on saturday.

Show preparations

We are starting today the showpreparations for the show in Hof next weekend. Sulo will have to take a shower, he is a little stinky-cat. I have not washed him for over 1/2 year. Sulo is actually only of our cats, whom I can wash without beeing hurt... Well anyway, his fell is not in the best condition and I hope I could do a litle magic trick with my shampoos. It is his first time in neuter class!

Today it has been 4 weeks of Sulo's and Tyyne's mating. But there are still no signs for pregnancy.

The time is long when you're waiting. Tomorrow it has been 3 weeks of Tyyne's and Sulo's mating and there are no signs of pregnancy what so ever.

Sulo is happily starting to live his neuter-life and he was aleady allowed to spend some time with his daughter (under careful supervision, of course...). They are really two of a kind and I think they will really be unseparate in future....

In the spring we are going to test Tyyne and Sulo also for HCM. Sulo was already tested negative in February last year, but it's safer to test once more after the castration.

Tyyne has been on heat for a week again. I don't believe they were very succesful in their attemps with Sulo, but you never know...

We have been planning some cat shows for next year and I think we are goig to Hof and Hannover with Sulo and Lempi. I hope to get some exhibition expeience to Lempi before the adult classes, because she seemed to be quite scared in Tica-show in Magdeburg.

I think Tyyne won't make it to the show, even though she wouldn't wait babies. Her fell looks quite bad at the moment and she is pretty thin. Maybe if her coat gets any better before february we could try Hannover.

Poor guy Sulo

Yesterday Sulo was finally neutered and he managed it well. While he was dreaming the vet also washed his teeth. After Elmo's granuloma operation I feared they might find something wrong in Sulo's mouth too, because his breath stinks, but everyting was OK. He loves to eat meat, so that is propably working as a teeth brush for him.

We also brought Tyyne to a check, because Sulo had bitten her neck badly during the weekend. The wound was quite a big, so it was sterilised and Tyyne also got some medicin. Both cats were also tested for GSD IV, just in case.

In the evening Sulo was already recovering and wanted to show some love to his girlfriend Tyyne again. Of course we separated the patients - one with wounds in her neck and other with wounds in his balls.

This week contained so many ups and downs, that I don't know where to start...

First of all, on monday started the fifth week of Tyyne's expected pregnancy. I was already quite sure that nothing had happened, because the cat still weighted about 3,5 kilos, which is her normal weight and her nipples weren't getting any more red than hey already were (which really was not that much...). So we were quite dissapointed.

Sulo made us some troublems by marking constantly and making a lot of noise. Sulo has had our living room as his barchelor apartment for last 2 months, though we sometimes let him on the other parts of the apartment as well and put girls in the living room. Elmo has been his compagnion. But now the whole situation escaleted, the whole apartment stunk and we people were fed up with constant noice.

OK, I know we survived long, over two and a half years, without any problems with an uncastrated male in a house and I also know it must be a torture for him to have the girls here... Well, even though all our plans dissappeared we made a decission to castrate him on monday the 18th. I booked the time for him on friday. Then maybe the Christmas would be a little less stinky by us....

As I come home from work on friday, Tyyne was walking funnily and making strange noises. And did we have luck - Indeed, she was on heat! So now we put the cats together for saturday and today, sunday and hope we will have some kittens in the middle of February. If Tyyne won'nt get pregnant now, we'll have to change our plans, because Sulo loosing his balls TOMORROW.

Lempi's first cat show

Yesterday we drove to Magdeburg to TICA cat show with Lempi. It was the first show for Lempi and the first TICA show for all of us. All the other cats stayed home, so the little one had to be extremely brave.

I was completely lost before the "rings" began. I tried to read the TICA-show rules, but it did not help. After the first ring I finally undestood what was going on. All the kittens under 8 months competed together and were gathered to each judge together. Each judge picked up the ten best cats. Lempi did not make it to the ten best. In a spciality ring for "long hair kittens" she won a price as "5th best" competing agains persians, balinese and colourpoint siberian ;) The variation of the cats was something new to me. Also Lempi's mother Lilly was in the show and she was twice choosed to be one of the ten best adult cats.

Lempi was behaving good, even thoug she was very shy and confused because of the new surroundings. Today she was relaxing in a christmas mood.

Sulo is still having his balls just in case until the end of this year. And he is such a fat cat at a moment with his 5,8 kg. It is too much for him. He has been too active eating kitten food. The annoying fact is that he has suddenly started to mark - I really can't invite anybody at our place right now because it's smelling all the time... Sulo is also pissed off because he is not allowed to meet his beloved daughter. But since the daughter is a beutiful young lady, its not very safe.

Elmo has recovered well after having the small granuloma operation a month ago.

We are going to Tica-show to Magdeburg with Lempi tomorrow. I'm excited about showing her and this is also my first Tica-show. Also Lempi's mother Lilly will take part on the show.

So, finally it happened yesterday evening... Tyyne was on heat. I was very happy for first half an hour but then I already started to wait that it will be over. She ist SO LOUD. And I thought male cats have louder voice. But no, its like comparing a lion to a little pussycat. Too bad Sulo was not immeadiately excited about the attention he was gettin' from Tyyne. He run away and was like he didn't notice anything. Gentleman or a lack of male hormones?

Today when I came from work it already looked quite promising. Now they have been in very close relations with Sulo, but I'm still not sure if anything happened yet.

Elmo returned home! He had to spend today the whole day on a vet praxis. His granuloma was operated and one teeth had o be removed. Sulo was happy to get his best friend back home (see photo). At the moment Elmo and Sulo are sleeping side by side on a sofa.

On wedneday we'll bring Elmo for a check and to get some antibiotics on a vet.

Holiday feelings down...

My holiday began on friday. Elmo had been a little flabby for two days and we wanted to take him to our vet for a check. The vet only needed to check into the big guy's mouth and she immeadiately regognized what was wrong - Elmo had a rodent ulcer (EOSINOPHILIC GRANULOMA) in his throath and back of the teeth. It was gotten so bad, that he needs to be operated and at least two theeth need to be removed.

On saturday Elmo was reluctant to eat. I made him to drink some liquid nutrition and it seemed to inspire him to eat some. I prepared his favorite food with water, and he licked some of it. But eating hurts him and he seems to think that the plate is biting him. He takes a bit in his mouth and jumps quickly away to eat. Poor guy.

These photos are taken today and Elmo might look like he could need a diet, but actually he only has big bones and a lot of fell.

Elmo knows how to enjoy good service even though he is sick. He was too tired to was himself so I had to burst the whole cat through. Lempi is waiting for her turn.

Poor BIG EL. We are extremely worried and can hardly think of anything else. The other cats are fine. Lempi turned today 6 months and Tyyne is already one year old. Here are the girls playing their favorite game: IN and OUT!

Today morning it was so cold when I let the cats out to the balcony. Though, in these photos it still looks like summer... the cat's don't seem to care - they just let their hair to grow and enjoy the weather. Even little Lempi already has longer hair on her back.

On monday I'll fly to Finland and I know it will be even colder there... HHHHRRRRRR....

Today I still had holiday. I spent a relaxed day finally filling out my "Steuererklärung" (tax return?) for the last year, which I was actually supposed to do already four months ago. I don't understand why can't they just send a ready-filled formula to me as in Finland....

The little princesses -who else?- took care of the action part of the day. Already at 6 am I woke up, as there was cat rally on the hall. At 8.30 the noises from the kitchen started to sound so weird that I had to stay up to see what was happening. I found lempi and Tyyne on my freashly-washed laundry playing hide and seek. Well, of couse I let them play and only checked that they don't get hurt.... Thank good for washing maschines.

The girls are starting to be same size even though Tyyne is 11 months old and Lempi only 4 1/2 months. Though Tyyne still weights some 1/2 kilos more. They really enjoy each others company: Often I only see an orange-black ball rolling around the apartment ;) It was so peacefull and quiet here before they arrived....

During the week I have turned 27, Lempi is getting new teeth and Tyyne's transfer finally arrived fron Denmark. We also had to cancel the show in Hamburg, because I'm still worried of the health of Lempi, even though she is doing good. We also don't want to infect other cats with our bacterias. And her on-coming teeth increase her own infection risk.

I had holiday on friday and I woke up covered with cats: Elmo had his normal place on my feet, Sulo was on my breast and Lempi had found her "niche" on my stomac. Tyyne is sleeping on her own room (living-room). Soon Lempi is also getting so old, that I will have to separate her from papa.

Elmo and Tyyne has become good friends - after all, they also share many interests: To eat as much as they can, as fast as they can. Too bad they always want the same portion and it sometimes leads to a little arguements... Another common interest is to eat every fly which makes the mistake of flying inside or on a balkon. I have never seen Elmo catching any, but Tyyne has got a few.

Lempi loves posing: she is getting more beutiful every day! She is also such a gentle little cat and even more "people-oriented" than papa Sulo.

On friday Sulo had a "reception" and a "beuty salon" in the box. He was laying there the whole night and always had a different companion on his side... And he washed everybody who came to the box. When taking this photo Lempi was getting so excited, that she climbed on a "big palm tree" which was "growing nearby". She seems to have a fixation with palms... yesterday she dropped a small one on a floor and we had to have a palmtree funeral. Well, the most important thing ist that the cats are having fun ;)

All our cats have very short coats at the moment, but especially Tyyne and Sulo already have longer hair growing. I'm pretty excited how Sulo's winter coat will be this year - last winter it was very soft and not very impressive... and I hope his daughter Lempi will have a better coat-quality.

Yesterday we went to see the vet to control how Lempi is doing. The first time the 1/2 hour trip with a car was so stressful to her, that this time we took "Sulo the papa" with Lempi in a box and miracle happened: We did not hear one MIAAAAOOOUW during the trip. Lempi was sleeping ON Sulos back. But the most important thing is, that Lempi is OK. We also heared good news from Lempi's Mom - she is safely back home.

Elmo on the other hand was so pissed of on the other day. The new family members have taken his place as a baby. I could read it from his face: the little bitches come to my house, sleep on my personal place in MY bed, play with MY people and the worst of all: THEY EAT MY FOOD.

....I have given Elmo a little bit extra attention and now he seems to be fine.

Nightly trip to a vet

Yesterday evening I got from a work at 20:00 and Lempi was not greeting me as anxiously as normally. She was sleepy ad did not want to play so much as usually. I thought maybe she was tired after playing the whole day, but after two hours she was still sleepy. I called her breeder for tips and then I called for a emergengy vet. We had luck and got an appoinment at 23.00.

I still was not sure if I only was over-sensitive with my beloved one, or if she really had something wrong. But the vet could soon prove my suspects right. My little cat had some fever and infection in her stomac - apparently the same bacteria that my other babygirl Tyyne had last week. She had medicin and we came home at 1.00 in a night.

Now Lempi is killing her mices just as usually and she don't have anymore fever. We go to see the vet saturday, if everything goes well. I was calling her breeder just to tell the good news - just to hear that Lempi's mother Lilly is missing. Now we are hoping that Lilly will return to her home.

I wanted to sleep long today after a little bar tour yesterday, but the cats had a different opinion about it. Before Lempi and Tyyne moved to us, it was always Elmo who woke me up... now he does not have to bother anymore because the two anxious newcomers always do it before him. Today after being used as a trampolin and being bombed with mauses I finally understand my own good and feed the cats. And now they are all sleeping....

Today I wanted to take some summer photos of our lovely little Lempi - she is turning 16 weeks tomorrow. Sulo noticed what was happening and wanted to be in the photos as well.

Afterwards I took a walk with Sulo and we were sitting a half an hour with him in our "Innenhof" (backyard?). Too bad I didn't take camera with me.
